LOUISIANA ADVOCATES FOR IMMIGRANTS

Standing With Immigrants in Detention

About Us

Louisiana Advocates for Immigrants in Detention is a grassroots, mostly volunteer state-wide organization that assists immigrants in the 10 Louisiana detention centers and 1 Mississippi detention center.

LaAID volunteers are on the ground working in Baton Rouge, Lafayette, Monroe, Ruston, Alexandria, Shreveport, and Natchez, MS, to provide transportation, meals, and overnight hosting for released immigrants as they travel to their family/sponsor.

We ensure that guests have a safe place to sleep before traveling to family or for family to pick-up. We also visit and write letters to people in detention, advocate for humane treatment and medical care within detention through ICE, and communicate with detained immigrants’ families to provide resource materials for them to navigate the DHS/ICE process.

We are not attorneys and do not provide legal representation for immigrants.

How We Help

LaAID provides practical, compassionate support for people impacted by immigration detention.

Overnight Hosting

When needed, volunteers help provide a safe place to rest before someone continues their journey.

Transportation

We help coordinate transportation from detention centers to airports, bus stations, or safe temporary locations.

Family Support

We communicate with families and share resources to help them navigate the detention process.

Meals & Basic Needs

We provide meals and basic support for people recently released from detention.

Visitation & Letters

Volunteers visit and write letters to people in detention to help reduce isolation.

Need Help for Someone in Detention or Recently Released?

If your loved one is being released from detention in Louisiana or Mississippi, LaAID may be able to help with transportation or short-term support.

If someone you know is still detained and needs support, you can submit a request for assistance.
Please remember that LaAID does not provide legal advice or legal representation.

Help Someone Reach Safety

Your donation helps provide transportation, meals, overnight hosting, and urgent support for immigrants released from detention. Every contribution helps volunteers respond when someone needs help.

Volunteer With LaAID

Volunteers are the heart of LaAID. You can help by providing transportation, one-night hosting, detention visits, letter writing, advocacy support, fundraising, or administrative assistance.
