Who We Are
Louisiana Advocates for Immigrants in Detention, also known as LaAID, is a grassroots statewide organization serving immigrants held in detention centers across Louisiana and Mississippi.
Our volunteers work across Baton Rouge, Lafayette, Monroe, Ruston, Alexandria, Shreveport, and Natchez, Mississippi. We help released immigrants reach safety by providing transportation, meals, overnight hosting, and connection to family or sponsors.
We also visit and write letters to people in detention, advocate for humane treatment and medical care, and help families access resource materials to better understand the DHS/ICE process.

How We Help
LaAID provides practical, people-centered support for immigrants in detention and for those recently released.
Transportation Support
We help coordinate transportation from detention centers to nearby airports, bus stations, or safe temporary locations.
Meals & Basic Needs
Donations help provide meals, basic necessities, and travel support for people recently released from detention.
Overnight Hosting
When needed, volunteers provide a safe place to rest before someone continues their journey to family or sponsors.
Visitation & Letters
Volunteers visit detained immigrants and write letters to help reduce isolation and remind people they are not forgotten.
Family Support
We communicate with families and share resource materials to help them navigate detention-related processes.
Advocacy
We advocate for humane treatment, access to medical care, and dignity for people in immigration detention.
